  14. Если бы... С блога Memento: [spoil] 1. That revelation about Oyashiro-sama was surprising. But if that is true then who is Frederica Bernkastel? I always thought that she's Oyashiro-sama due to her deep, mature voice. 2. If Rika is not Oyashiro-sama herself, then what is the point of killing her? 3. If Rika can't remember who killed her in other arcs apart Watanagashi/Meakashi, then how did she remember that Shion (will) torture her in Watanagashi and Meakashi? Is it because she was Watanagashied that she can't recalled her murderer in the other scenarios? 4. What happened to Satoshi? 5. The circumstances behind Tomitake's, Irie's, Ooishi's death in some arcs. 6. The identity of other murderer apart from Satoshi/Keiichi/Rena/Shion (ie. the dam murderer who escaped). 7. Is there a disease in Hinamizawa and how does this come into existence in the first place? 8. How widespread is the knowledge about the disease that affects Hinamizawa resident? Assuming such disease exists, wouldn't it make sense to inform the resident about this so they can prevent further tragedy? If this knowledge is suppressed, what is the reason for it? To prevent mass hysteria? 9. Who is Takano and what is her real motive? 10. Who are the men in green/grey uniform? Are they related to the Sonozaki family? ------ 1. Frederica is the collected consciousness of all the dead Rika's. 2. Rika is killed as the final nail in the coffin for justifying the extermination of the town. 3. Rika can't remember the last 10 min of her life, and since Shion took her dear sweet time torturing her to death in Wataganashi, Meakashi Rika could remember it. 4. He was assaulted on his way out of town and ended up in a coma as a John Doe in another town's hospital. 5. Tomitake disagrees with Takano's plans, so she has him killed. Irie, when he dies, is on the verge of exposing what is going to happen, so he is killed. Ooishi, on the rare occasions when he is killed is on the track to the truth, so he is taken care of. 6. Dam worker killed the dam director. Either Satoko's father fell off the cliff while fighting with his wife who was trying to kill them, or Satoko ended up pushing both off during the fight, not sure. Rika's mother killed her father, iirc. 7. Yes, bioweapon research during the war, iirc. 8. Virtually unknown. It's obviously a large goverment secret. The Japanese government certainly doesn't want any history of bioweapon research leaked, and ultimately they're willing to erase Hinamizawa to keep the secret, so no, they aren't going to tell the townspeople. 9. Takano is part of an ultra-nationalistic organization with deep ties with the Japanese government and military. She belongs to a faction in the organization that believes it is a waste of time and resources to try to cure Hinamizawa syndrome, so she manipulates events to justify the extermination of the town. In part, she gets a rush from having so much control over the lives of so many people. There are apparently deeper parts to her motivation only revealed in Matsuribayashi (final arc) but I don't know them. Somehow, her grandfather seems to be part of it. 10. They work for the same organization. Irie believes they follow his orders, but they are actually part of Takano's faction. As you might guess, they were the ones ultimately responsible for the cancellation of the dam project. They also make the killers "disappear". ----- 1. There was a bioweapon research occured in Hinamizawa. The government wants to keep it a secret from the public. 2. When the dam project started, the very existence of the project threatens to expose this bioweapon existence. 3. During the dam project, people started to contract the disease and starts killing each other. 4. Takano and her men were sent to dispose the murderer in order to cover up the existence of the disease in the first place. They then kidnap the grandson of the minister to ensure that the project is canned. 5. It appears that the Sonozaki family is aware of the existence of Takano and her men but they are not really aware of her true intention. 6. When people in the village start to contract the disease and kill their immediate family members, the scapegoat for these murders end up being 'the curse of Oyashiro-sama'. It's the perfect cover story since the actual killer will be disposed of, leaving the situation looking like it has some supernatural causes behind it. 7. When Satoshi killed his aunt, he's suspected of contracting the disease as well so he's disposed of on his way to another city. But from the sound of the spoiler, he actually survived. 8. Ryuugu Reina was a girl who was taken into Ibaraki by her parents. The divorce of her parents, however, caused mental imbalance on her parts and the disease starts to affect her mind. It was during this time that she saw Hanyuu (the real Oyashiro-sama) who told her that in order to survive, she must returns to Hinamizawa. 9. Maebara Keiichi is a juvenile back in the city. When his father found out about this, he made the decision to move his family to the small town of Hinamizawa. During his research of the town, he saw the visage of two girls. One of the girls is Rika. The other is Hanyuu. 10. Sonozaki Shion is actually Sonozaki Mion whose true identity was swapped during childhood. However, ever since then she has no choice but to assume the name Sonozaki Shion. Shion eventually returns to Okinomiya city when she got bored of her dorm life. 11. The event of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni starts. Tomitake gets killed by Takano for disagreeing with her plan. 12. Keiichi contracted the disease in Onikakushi-hen. Takano's men fetch him and take him back home. Before Irie can give him the injection, however, Keiichi already killed Rena and Mion. When Keiichi claims that he saw Oyashiro-sama, he probably meant that he saw Hanyuu. Hanyuu is apparently the one who said "Gomennasai" after he slams the door on Rena. Keiichi dies by scratching his own throat. 13. In Watanagashi-hen, Keiichi doesn't give the doll to Mion, triggering the 'demon' (read: psychosis) inside Shion (because Mion's happiness reminds her of Satoshi). Shion goes nuts and kills everyone whom she believes was involved in Satoshi's disappearance. She captures Rika and Satoko, torturing the two of them before killing them. Shion then tries to kill Keiichi but for some reason manages to stop herself until that night when Keiichi brings out the doll (thinking that Shion is Mion). Shion dies when she tries to climb into her own apartment. 14. In Tatarigoroshi-hen, Irie and Ooishi get too close to the truth and are terminated by Takano's men. Rika ends up being killed by Takano inside her own house and her corpse is found by Keiichi. Satoko thinks that Keiichi kills her friend and pushes Keiichi off the bridge. Satoko herself gets killed by unknown assailant later on. The media claims that the gas disaster happened not long after this. 15. In Himatsubushi-hen, a cop (thx for the correction choles!) called Akasaka gets too close to the truth. He gets to meet Frederica Bernkestel, who is basically the collective consciousness of all the dead Rika. 16. In Meakashi-hen, Rika knows that she's heading towards the same path that she experienced in Watanagashi. Instead of letting Shion torture herself all over again, she decides to end her own life instead. 17. In Tsumihoroboshi-hen a chance probability occurs: Keiichi remembers the event that transpired in Onikakushi-hen. This motivates him to save Rena and avert the disaster. Rika is moved by his resolve and agrees to help him from here on forward. They all fail once again because Rika got killed by Takano a few days after Keiichi saves Rena. There are a few things that I'm still not sure though: 1. Am I right to assume that Rika is aware of the existence of Takano and her men? I even assume that she trusts some of these men. 2. The Sonozaki family does not know that Takano and her men want to exterminate the village once and for all. Is this correct? 3. How did Rika gains the ability to re-live her life all over again? Is there a limit to this? 4. Is Takano aware of Rika's ability to re-live her life all over again? ----- 1. Rika knows about the shady figures in town but assumes Takano to be dead until Minagoroshi. 2. The Sonozakis know about a "special group" in town but not the motive, so yes. 3. Hanyuu, a very nice "ghost" who is actally Oyashiro-sama, revives Rika so she can "restart" her life in the summer of 1983. 4. No. [/spoil]
