This first album on Kode9’s Hyperdub label comes from the mysterious Burial. On this self-titled CD debut, Burial carves out a sound which sends the dormant slinky syncopations of uk garage, via radio interference, into a padded cell of cushioned, muffled bass, passing through the best of Pole’s Berlin crackle dub.

 

Burial explores a tangential, parallel dimension of the growing sound of dubstep. Burial’s parallel dimension sounds set in a near future South London underwater. You can never tell if the crackle is the burning static off pirate radio transmissions, or the tropical downpour of the submerged city outside the window. In their sometimes suffocating melancholy, most of these tracks seem to yearn for drowned lovers. The smouldering desire of ‘Distant Lights’ is cooled only by the percussive ice sharp slicing of blades and jets of hot air blowing from the bass. Listen also for a fleeting appearance from Hyperdub’s resident vocalist, the Spaceape unravelling his crypto-biography. In its loud quietness, Burial takes his kitchen crackle aesthetic neither from the digital glitch nor merely a nostalgia for vinyl’s materiality. Instead, as ‘Pirates’ suggests, Burial crackle mutates the tactile surplus value of pirate radio transmissions. Burial’s mix is haunted. Echoed voices breeze in and out, on road to another time. Pirate signal from other frequencies steams in. A tidal wave of noise submerging all but the crispest syncopations. The noise is not violent, but caressing, tickling, exciting the ends of your nerves. Seducing you in.

Various Production или просто Various — дуэт из Лондона(London, UK), чью музыку журналисты однажды описали как «дабстеп, обёрнутый в бархат». И действительно, у Various проникновенный, преимущественно женский, вокал обволакивает самые яростные басовые текстуры. Но, как гласит название коллектива (Various — разнообразный), их музыка, конечно, шире такого сравнения — дабстеп, грайм, электро, фолк и любые прочие разности с лёгкостью идут в дело, заставляя слушателя с каждым новым релизом задумываться о том, чего же ждать дальше.

 

Как таковые Various Production появились в 2002 году на одноимённом лейбле с серией строго лимитированных 7- и 12-дюймовых пластинок без какой-либо опознавательной информации за исключением выразительного графического оформления от Дэвида Брея (David Bray), выступающего под сценическим именем Bonesy, что впоследствии стало визитной карточкой группы, подчёркивая их индивидуальный стиль во всём.

 

По-настоящему всеобщие взоры Various Production обратили на себя в 2005 году с выходом сингла «Hater». Резонанс от этой пластики был настолько велик, что за право выпустить дебютный альбом Various Production развернулась настоящая война между такими лейблами, как Warp, Leaf и Domino. В конечном итоге первый альбом Various Production под названием «The World is Gone» летом 2006-го вышел на легендарном XL Recordings.

 

Далее последовали продолжение серии синглов на собственном лейбле дуэта и ремиксы на таких музыкантов, как Том Йорк (Thom Yorke), Ян Браун (Ian Brown), Virus Syndicate, Bomb the Bass и др. А летом 2008-го на собственном лейбле Various свет увидел альбом «Versus», где среди прочих «разнообразной» обработке также подверглись Sugababes, Sia и Foals, чему на второй половине диска были противопоставлены ремиксы уже на самих Various от Rustie, Zomby и Milanese.

btw, отдельно доставляют ютубовские комменты к дабстеповым трекам, типа : "mY CATs head just exploded", "this is dirtier than a pensioner on viagra...", "I cant feel my legs.", "this is exactly like giving a hand job too a chainsaw while deepthroating a hair-dryer." и т.д. :)

Alright guys n gals, here is my yearly mix. I hope you enjoy it as much as i did playing it to 3000+ people in the Village stage @ Shambhala this year.

For any of you who want to hear what bass music is meant to sound like, I suggest you go to Shambhala Music Festival 2010 here in Canada and check out the what PK Sound does at the village stage. I have never heard such a clean, loud, and chest pounding system with such incredible bass. After talking to Spor, Ac Slater, and Ewun after my set, they all agreed it is the best sounding outdoor rig they have ever heard. 100,000 watts of pure PK sound, thank you PK for having me play on your system, it is the best in the world. People, definitely check this out next year, I don't care how far away in the world you live.

Every track in this mix was sent to me by the producers that created them, thank you all for allowing me to put so many sick tracks together in this mix!!!!

Не согласен. Видео тут абсолютно не в тему, как по мне.

А вообще, Неро превосходный дабстеп пишут. Советую еще Night Thunder. И ремикс на MJ Cole - Sincere.

Чёрт, не совсем подходит под сабж, но тему с глитчем не нашёл. Да и саунд, в принципе, находится в одной категории. Только вот не ожидал, что этот стиль будет таким образом популяризоваться, да еще и в России...
